Fatal Pedestrian Accidents on Missouri Interstates
Pedestrian crashes on interstate highways are especially dangerous due to high vehicle speeds and limited reaction time for drivers. Roadways like I-70 are designed exclusively for motor vehicle travel, and pedestrians are extremely vulnerable when present in active traffic lanes. Even attentive drivers may be unable to stop or avoid a collision when encountering a pedestrian unexpectedly at highway speeds.
In Missouri, pedestrian fatalities frequently occur on high-speed roadways and near highway exits or entrance ramps. Factors such as poor visibility, confusion, vehicle breakdowns, or impaired judgment can sometimes lead pedestrians onto interstate lanes, where the risk of fatal injury is significantly increased.
When a fatal pedestrian crash occurs, surviving family members are often left facing emotional trauma along with unexpected financial burdens. Medical expenses, funeral costs, and loss of income can quickly become overwhelming. Missouri law allows certain surviving family members to pursue a wrongful death claim when negligence or unsafe conditions contribute to a fatal accident.
A wrongful death claim may help families seek compensation for funeral and burial expenses, medical costs incurred before death, lost financial support, and loss of companionship. Legal guidance can also help families understand their rights, review crash reports, and communicate with insurance companies during a difficult time.
