Salem, MO – Two Killed, Two Injured in Head-On Crash on Hwy 72

Salem, MO (December 12, 2025) – A tragic head-on crash early on December 10 on Highway 72 near County Road 2300 claimed the lives of two people and left two others seriously injured.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 7:16 a.m. when a 2017 Chevrolet Spark, traveling eastbound, crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2015 Dodge Charger. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash and towed from the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 60-year-old man from Salem, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dent County Deputy Coroner. A 31-year-old woman driving the Dodge Charger, also from Salem, suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Salem Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

A 1-year-old girl in the Dodge was also seriously hurt and taken to the same hospital. Sadly, another child — a baby girl less than one year old — was pronounced dead at Salem Memorial Hospital at 8:21 a.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash team continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Our hearts go out to the families affected by this devastating incident.

Head-On Collisions in Salem, Missouri

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents, especially on rural highways like those found in Dent County. When one vehicle crosses the center line, the results can be catastrophic — as seen in the recent Highway 72 crash in Salem.

In 2023, the Missouri Department of Transportation reported that over 1,000 people lost their lives in traffic accidents across the state. A large portion of these fatalities involved unrestrained drivers or head-on impacts. Many of these crashes occur in rural areas, where narrow roads, higher speeds, and limited visibility increase the risk of serious injuries.

Victims of head-on crashes — including surviving family members — may be entitled to pursue compensation through personal injury or wrongful death claims. A qualified attorney can help assess damages such as medical bills, funeral expenses, lost wages, and emotional suffering. In cases involving fatalities, wrongful death claims can also provide families with a sense of justice and financial stability during a time of profound loss.

If a serious Missouri crash has impacted you or a loved one, consulting with an experienced legal professional is crucial. To understand your rights, consider speaking with a wrongful death lawyer.
