St. Louis Co., MO – Serious Injuries in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run on I-70 Near Jennings Station Rd

St. Louis County, MO (September 24, 2024) – A woman suffered serious injuries early Sunday, November 23, after a pickup truck struck her as she attempted to cross Interstate 70 in St. Louis County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 5 a.m. on westbound I-70 near Jennings Station Rd. The 29-year-old St. Louis resident was walking in the far-left passing lane when a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck hit her.

Troopers say the driver did not stay at the scene and fled immediately after the impact. First responders arrived quickly and transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Officials have not released any additional information about the pickup truck or its driver.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision and work to identify the person responsible.

Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we hope she makes a full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in St. Louis

Pedestrian crashes are a serious concern across St. Louis, where busy interstates, high-speed traffic, and limited safe crossing areas can create hazardous conditions. When a vehicle hits a person, the injuries are often severe because pedestrians have no protection from the force of a moving car or truck. Crashes on major corridors like I-70 tend to cause even more serious harm due to higher speeds.

St. Louis County has seen a troubling rise in pedestrian risk over recent years. Crash data shows that pedestrian deaths in the region have reached some of the highest levels on record. In 2023 alone, the county recorded more than 290 pedestrian-involved crashes. Many of these incidents happen on high-speed arterial roads where speed limits are over 35 mph. Several of these dangerous corridors pass through underserved neighborhoods, contributing to long-standing safety disparities.

Furthermore, hit-and-run pedestrian collisions create added difficulties for victims and law enforcement. When a driver leaves the scene, emergency response may be slowed, and investigators must work harder to identify the person responsible. Despite strict Missouri laws, hit-and-run crashes remain a persistent problem.

Pedestrian accident victims may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost income, long-term care needs, and pain and suffering. Even in hit-and-run cases, injured individuals may still recover damages through uninsured motorist coverage, witness statements, nearby traffic or security cameras, or later identification of the fleeing driver.

A truck accident attorney can help victims understand their rights, gather evidence, communicate with insurance companies, and pursue compensation. This guidance can be especially important after a serious crash on a major interstate where multiple agencies may be involved.
