Mercer, MO — Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash at Rte P and Decal St

Mercer, MO (March 11, 2026) — A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Tuesday, March 10, resulting in the death of an 84-year-old man and serious injuries to his passenger.

The crash took place at the intersection of Route P and Decal Street, approximately eight miles west of Mercer. According to preliminary reports, an 84-year-old male driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Impala was stopped at a stop sign facing eastbound on Decal Street. As he entered the intersection, his vehicle failed to yield to a 2013 Chevrolet 2500 traveling southbound on Route P, driven by a 48-year-old male.

The southbound truck struck the Impala in the driver’s side. The impact forced the Impala off the east side of the roadway, where it came to rest facing northeast. The truck continued southward before coming to a controlled stop in the northbound lane.

The 84-year-old driver of the Impala was pronounced deceased at the scene. His 83-year-old passenger was transported to Wayne County Hospital with serious injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life.

Missouri Fault and Liability Laws

Missouri operates under an "at-fault" system using pure comparative fault. This means you can recover damages even if you are partially responsible for a crash, though your compensation will be reduced by your exact percentage of fault.

Because insurance companies often try to shift blame to minimize payouts, securing objective evidence, such as the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, witness statements, and vehicle data, is essential for protecting your interests.

If a collision results in a fatality, Missouri’s Wrongful Death statute allows surviving family members to seek compensation for financial losses, including lost future support and funeral expenses. You may also pursue damages for "aggravating circumstances" to hold reckless drivers accountable for exceptionally dangerous behavior.

The statute of limitations generally requires a wrongful death lawsuit to be filed within three years of the date of death.

Given the complexity of appointing a personal representative and the risk of losing time-sensitive evidence, early consultation with a legal professional is vital to ensure your claim is handled according to Missouri law and to preserve your family's right to full recovery.
