Montgomery Co., MO – One Killed, Another Injured After Vehicle Hydroplanes on I-70
Montgomery County, MO (October 11, 2025) – A 58-year-old woman from Georgia was killed on October 10 after a vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Montgomery County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 9:24 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the 181.6-mile marker. Troopers said a 46-year-old woman from Englewood, Colorado, was driving east when her vehicle changed lanes and began to hydroplane on the wet pavement. The vehicle slid out of control, left the right side of the highway, and overturned.
The passenger, a Georgia woman, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck and the crash remains under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities have not released the victims’ names as the investigation continues. Weather and road conditions are being reviewed to determine what caused the vehicle to lose control. This tragic incident highlights the dangers of driving in wet conditions. Officials urge drivers to slow down during rainfall, as hydroplaning can occur even at moderate speeds.
Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the woman who lost her life.
Hydroplaning and Wet Road Accidents in Missouri
Rain-related accidents are common across Missouri’s interstates, including I-70. Hydroplaning occurs when a layer of water builds up between a vehicle’s tires and the roadway, causing a complete loss of traction. Drivers may feel the car sliding uncontrollably or spinning, often resulting in serious or fatal crashes.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, weather contributes to more than 20% of all vehicle accidents in the United States each year, with rain being the top factor. In Missouri, hundreds of crashes annually are linked to slick roads and standing water.
When someone is injured or killed in a weather-related collision, families often face steep medical expenses, funeral costs, and emotional loss. A skilled personal injury or wrongful death attorney can help victims and their loved ones pursue financial recovery.
Compensation may cover hospital bills, property damage, lost income, and pain and suffering. Legal guidance is especially important when insurance companies minimize payouts or deny claims.
