Kansas City, MO — Two Dead After Speeding F-150 Triggers Chain-Reaction Crash at Meyer Blvd

Kansas City, MO (March 3, 2026) — Two people were killed, and several others were injured on Monday afternoon, March 2, in a violent multi-vehicle collision initiated by a speeding pickup truck. The Kansas City Police Department responded to the scene at the intersection of U.S. 71 Highway and Meyer Boulevard just after 12:30 p.m.

According to investigators, a black Ford F-150 was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the U.S. 71 exit ramp toward Meyer Boulevard. The truck sideswiped a silver Ford Escape before slamming into the rear of a silver Subaru Forester stopped at a red light. The force of the impact was so great that the F-150 pushed the Subaru across the eastbound lanes of Meyer Boulevard, through a center median, and over a concrete wall.

As it was forced over the wall, the Subaru overturned and landed in the westbound lanes. The driver and front-seat passenger of the Subaru sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released. After separating from the Subaru, the pickup truck continued to rotate across the westbound lanes, striking a gray GMC Sierra.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The drivers of the Ford Escape and the GMC Sierra were also treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the person who lost their life. And we hope everyone injured in this accident makes a full recovery.

What to Do After a High-speed Chain Reaction in Missouri

In a high-speed chain reaction like the Meyer Boulevard crash, Missouri’s "Pure Comparative Fault" system allows victims to recover damages even if multiple parties share blame. Because this incident involved extreme speed and fatalities, families may seek Punitive Damages to punish "gross negligence." Due to the number of victims, the at-fault driver's insurance may be exhausted quickly, making your own Underinsured Motorist (UIM) coverage a vital secondary resource.

In Missouri, striking stopped vehicles at high speed on an exit ramp often moves beyond simple negligence into "wantonness." If a driver showed complete indifference to safety, survivors can seek punitive damages. These are designed to punish the offender and can significantly increase a recovery beyond standard medical and funeral costs.

With four vehicles involved in this case, the at-fault driver’s policy limits will likely be reached fast. For those in the Ford Escape and GMC Sierra, filing a claim through your own coverage is often necessary to bridge the gap between your medical bills and the available settlement funds.

Finally, under Missouri law, the surviving spouse, children, or parents are the primary parties entitled to file a wrongful death claim. This legal action covers "pecuniary" losses, such as funeral expenses and lost future financial support, alongside the profound emotional loss of companionship.
